Factor is – without question – the hardest working, most prolific producer in Canada today. There’s no taking it away from him. So far this year he has produced tracks for Myka 9, Moka Only,	Ceschi,	Isaiah	Toothtaker, Sunspot Jonz, Sole, Noah23, Kay the Aquanaut, Mic King and more, as well as full length albums with Awol One and his project with Kirby Dominant, Paranoid Castle. All of these projects showcase Factor’s versatility as a producer as he effortlessly blurs the lines between Hip-Hop, Pop, Folk, R&B and Rock, while maintaining

Now with the new moniker for his solo work, Factor and the Chandeliers, he builds upon his already vast repertoire and creates his first sample-free fully instrumental EP. Working with session musicians, including long time collaborators bassist Enver Hampton and Canadian Pop Sensation Gregory Pepper – as well as natural field recordings – he experiments with a wide array of genres within just eight cohesive tracks. By taking this new step, creating more organically and collaborating with a variety of talented musicians, Factor hopes to progress his sound and his abilities as a producer.

It’s a far cry from a traditional Hip Hop record, or an instrumental Hip Hop record for that matter. Exploring facets of 80′s era R&B, Upbeat dance and Shoegaze, it elicits a range of emotions, all enveloped with a solid head-nodding groove. Although Factor’s distinct dusty breaks are still the driving force, the wide variety of original source material enables Factor to play the line between late night dance party and chill-out session.

http://www.circleintosquare.com/item/champagne-nightmares

Bay Area emcee Kirby Dominant and Canadian producer Factor have both been at it for a decade plus, putting out consistent quality material on their respective fronts. In 2001 they found common ground, began recording together under the moniker Paranoid Castle and eventually released their debut collaboration One Way Ticket on Side Road Records in 2004. Kirby’s path to the fruits of the now was a bit bumpier than that of his contemporaries. By the age of 17 he had already been selling dope, locked up and shot. He was able to drastically shift gears and move forward at UC Berkeley, where he spent his financial aid checks on making an album. A string of successful releases on Rapitalism Records along with his Dominant Mammals collabo with Moka Only brought Kirby to the forefront of west coast indie rap and drew praise from the likes of URB Magazine and the San Francisco Guardian.

Factor has produced full-lengths for a who’s who of underground talent ranging from Awol One to Moka Only to Gregory Pepper in addition to his own lush, melodic solo endeavors. His larger-than-life palette incorporates bone-shattering drums spliced with meticulous samples and live instrumentation. From the virtual obscurity of Saskatoon to sought-after super-producer status, Factor’s travels have included working and touring alongside Kool Keith, Tha Liks, Sadat X, Aesop Rock and Buck 65.

2011 finds the duo of Kirby Dominant and Factor reunited as Paranoid Castle with their most focused collaboration to date. The years between the group’s releases gave them the opportunity to explore disparate musical avenues while still building chemistry as a crew with Kirby featuring on all of Factor’s solo projects. Champagne Nightmares	the duo’s debut on Fake Four, delicately careens between playful party anthems and introspective treatises on loss and being lost. While sections of the record find Kirby popping bottles and toasting to the good life, something in the way of Factor’s piercing aural brilliance brings out the vulnerable side of the NorCal rapper via bangers such as “Orca” and “Some Place Else.”

Kay The Aquanaut – Waterloo

Saskatoon, SK, Canada is quickly becoming a hub for independent hip hop in the great white north. Through his consistently strong output, collaborations with producer Factor and energetic live performances, Kay The Aquanaut has become one of Canada’s hip hop acts to watch. On his debut Circle Into Square release “Waterloo” Kay lays down anthemic political raps with so much heart that the politics almost feel secondary to raw emotion. Longtime collaborator Factor and upcoming French beat maker Zoen provide hard hitting yet melodic backdrops for Kay’s powerful critiques of modern society. Guest vocalists from Kay’s Sideroad family such as Def3, Cam The Wizzard, and Nolto as well as Fake Four’s Sole and Ceschi join in seamlessly. Waterloo is undoubtedly a new musical peak for this exciting voice in Canadian hip hop.

Evil Ebenezer’s newest EP Widow’s Creek is an eccentric ode to the wonders of childhood, summers that never end and the desolate winter which all young boys must face when they become men. Told from the shivering broken bunker of that old summer cottage where a family had the best of times and young boys caused all they trouble they could to make the best memories of their lives.

Now it’s winter. The pipes have burst, the lake has frozen and childhood has slipped away. As Evil stumbles through the shattered remains of his childhood cottage, listeners will feel the crystal clear joys of the past that you can only feel when you look back at what’s already slipped away. This is a story for our generation, that have lost their childhood and don’t know how to become an adult. For every person trapped in a dark season of the soul, where the good times, the old loves and the never healed traumas of life stop them from moving on. This is about struggling to live your life when you know that you’re only free of misery when you’re dead and ultimately the courage to suffer in the pursuit of what makes you happy instead of staying numb in the safety of the past.

Widow’s Creek is a land of first love, best friends and broken dreams. A place few can leave. This is the story of how Evil broke out of town. Produced by Factor, the album offers beautiful sound scapes filled with nostalgia, hope, joy and loss. Ebenezer reaches new levels of emotional depth and musicality in this release. Widow’s Creek is a haunting and hopeful EP, of a winter that seemed like it would never end and the sunshine that brought it all back.
